Motion Detector, on/off switch for LED Strips

Great as a security device or to trigger a light in your closet, the PIR (Passive InfraRed) Motion Detector for LED Strips from LED Montreal uses the latest heat sensing technology to power on your LED Strips when a human presence is sensed (detecting rapid changes of infrared energy). The PIR Motion Detector has an effective range of up to 8 meters (25 feet) with a 180 degree radius.

This switch will work with both 12V and 24V Strips and Power Supplies.

For extra convenience, the Motion Detector is equipped with a time delay dial that allows you to set up the lighting time for 2 to 10 minutes and a 6 A maximum current load. This means that it cannot be used with more than 5 meters of 5050 300 LED Strips or 10 meters of our 5050 150 LED Strips. If you are using 3528 single color 300 LED Strip, the Motion Detector will power up your kit for up to 10 meters.  Simply put, it will power any set up that requires a 3A or 6A power supply but will not be compatible with a 10A set up. The PIR Motion Detector should not be installed near big appliances as they are known to cause interference. A PIR Motion Detector located near a big appliance, such as a refrigerator, may not shut down after the expired delay.

Installing the PIR Motion Detector switch is easy.
Connect your power supply to the INPUT slots of the Motion Detector Module by loosening up the screws.  For an easier installation we recommend using the female DC adaptors connecting it directly to your power supply’s male connector. Alternatively, you can cut the end of your power supply wire, skin the 2 wires (red/black) and connect the red wire into the + slot of Motion Detector connector. Repeat the same process with the black wire and the – slot. Make sure to tighten the screws once your set up is complete.

Connecting the output of the Motion Detector depends on your set up:

For single color Strips without a dimmer:
Connect your LED Strip to the OUTPUT slots of the Motion Detector Module by loosening up the screws.  For an easier installation we recommend using the male DC adaptor and connecting it directly to your strip’s female connector. Alternatively, you can cut the end of your Strip’s wire, skin the 2 wires (red/black) and connect the red wire into the + slot of Motion Detector connector. Repeat the same process with the black wire and the – slot. Make sure to tighten the screws once your set up is complete.

If you are using a dimmer on your Single Color Strip:
Use the process outlined above, connecting the dimmer to the output of the Motion Detector instead of connecting it to the Strip. Your Strip will then connect to the output of the dimmer.

For RGB Strips:
Connect your controller to the OUTPUT slots of the Motion Detector Module by loosening up the screws.  Take the male DC adaptor and hook it up directly to the female connector of the controller making sure that the red wire is inserted  into the + slot of Motion Detector connector. Repeat the same process with the black wire and the – slot. Make sure to tighten the screws once your set up is complete.

Note that all RGB Strip Controllers EXCEPT THE IR MUSIC CONTROLLER will remember the last lighting pattern or color you chose. Therefore, the same pattern will be repeated upon powering up through the Motion Detector. If you are using the PIR Motion Detector with the IR music controller, your Strip will light up according to a random mode.
